BEER CAN DESIGN & ARTWORK // MURAL

Hog River Brewing Company, Hartford CT

Two different palettes, one unified experience

Our work is an ongoing feature on the core line of craft beers of Hog River Brewing Company. Having produced an array of artworks to date, each individual piece is closely matched to the specific beer and character under close collaboration with the brewery. Varying degrees of color, vibrancy, space, textures, and patterns are used to to create the perfect pairing of two crafts: art and beer.

Having been given the creative freedom realize our vision for the cans, we were also responsible for the layout and design of the can along with the original art itself.

Our aim was to create a can that matches the delicate complexities of what lay inside while establishing a unique presence .

Prior to the label art and design, we were commissioned to create a large mural inside their taproom measuring upwards of 16 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Along with symbolism found around our Hartford community, the mural is full of metaphorical references, inside jokes, and nods to experiences had by the owners of the brewery which has become an intriguing piece to ponder by the taproom drinkers. Questions like “What’s up with the hot dog ring?” and “Are those Paw Patrol band-aids?” can be a heard among the crowd on any given day.

CUSTOM EXHIBITION “FOCUS, FLOW & IMPACT”

Pine & Iron Axe Throwing, New Haven CT

Ales, Axes, and Allegory

Our friends at Pine & Iron Axe Throwing invited us to participate in the grand opening of their newest location in New Haven, CT. To help them celebrate, we put together a group show titled “Focus, Flow, and Impact” where we created thematic works exploring the uncertainty of decision making through the simply journey of an axe throw.

Collected in related groups, works were created and displayed in the three categories outlined in the show’s title highlighting the phases on an axe throw:

Focus
The planning process and thinking behind an action in decision making. It’s correlation here is lifting the axe in preparation to hit the mark.

Flow
The event that takes place guided by your choice, it is the axe in flight as it leaves; your hands.

Impact
The outcome of what you’ve chosen to do, it is the resulting collision of the axe and pine.

Sometimes we plan and hit the goal. Sometimes we prepare yet still fail. Focus, Flow, and Impact reminds us that no matter the outcome, one thing can be certain: you won’t know unless you try.
